{"id":45639,"date":"2022-02-21T14:15:57","date_gmt":"2022-02-21T12:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/komani-karoo\/police-arrest-couple-with-drugs-worth-more-than-r250-000-outside-cradock-20220221\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T18:26:38","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T16:26:38","slug":"police-arrest-couple-with-drugs-worth-more-than-r250-000-outside-cradock-20220221","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/komani-karoo\/police-arrest-couple-with-drugs-worth-more-than-r250-000-outside-cradock-20220221\/","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest couple with drugs worth more than R250 000 outside Cradock"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A drug consignment worth thousands of Rand was confiscated by the Cradock and Cookhouse police on Sunday, February 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The couple, a 35-year-old man and a woman (30), were arrested with illicit drugs worth over R250 000 after the drugs were found in the vehicle they were traveling in on the R61 near Cradock last night, provincial police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn Sunday, 21 February around 18:30, it is alleged that members from SAPS Cookhouse and Cradock POPS were patrolling route R61, when they received a notification of a flagged vehicle, a silver grey VW GTI travelling past Tarkastad turn-off towards Cradock direction, and members waited for the vehicle. Moments later, a vehicle was spotted and was pulled off the road. The two occupants granted permission for the vehicle to be searched, and 1 005 mandrax tablets and 450 grams of tik were found stashed in a school bag. Drugs with an estimated street value of R250 150 were seized for further investigation,\u201d Nkohli said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A vehicle that belongs to one of the suspects was impounded and an application for the vehicle to be forfeited to the state will follow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation is continuing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The duo will appear before the Cradock Magistrate\u2019s Court soon on charges of dealing in illicit drugs with an alternative charge of possession of illicit drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acting district commissioner, Brigadier John Lebok said: \u201cThe advancement in technology is positively contributing towards crime reduction. Technology increases ways where the suspects could be linked to crime scenes. Through advanced technology, a criminal\u2019s freedom will be curtailed and they will no longer be able to run from the law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Images\"
