As previously reported<\/strong><\/a>, it is alleged that at about 23:00 on July 2 a heavy-duty truck hit a stray animal and the driver lost control.<\/p>\n\n\n\nAs the driver was trying to regain control, its trailer gave in, fell over and hit a fully loaded taxi which was driving in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All 15 of the passengers in the mini-bus taxi died, which included nine women and four men. Also among the victims were a two-month-old baby and a two-year-old toddler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Transport Department, Unathi Binqose, 11 of the victims have been identified while two women and two children are yet to be identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe hold a strong belief that the two children may be related to one of, if not, both adult females who died in the mini-bus,\u201d said Binqose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said they are very optimistic that the four bodies will be identified by today, July 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
