SAPS Cookhouse Highway Patrol members were holding surveillance duties at various ATMs in Somerset East and Cookhouse areas after receiving information of card scammers operating in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, on Friday, July 14, members made a breakthrough and arrested a 41-year-old man. A total of 19 bank cards and cash were found in his possession. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA Volo station wagon was also confiscated, the suspect is expected to appear in the Somerset East magistrate court on Monday, July 17 ,on charges of possession of suspected stolen bank cards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAdditional charges of Fraud are expected to be included to his charge, police are warning people to also be aware of their surroundings when transacting at ATM\u2019s and never accept assistance from anyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBe very cautious of anyone striking up a conversation with you and offering to help you. Cancel your transaction and leave,\u201d said Naidu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
