A celebratory occasion marking 110 years of a local rugby
\nclub in the Eastern Cape\u2019s community of Adelaide, was recently hosted. This
\nsignificant milestone for the Lily White Rugby Football Club, drew the
\nattention of the country\u2019s minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, who
\nsent best wishes and acknowledgment of the role that this club played within
\nthe local community in showcasing talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players across many
\ngenerations and some of the club\u2019s prominent supporters gathered to commemorate
\ntogether, many of whom received special awards and recognition for their
\ncontributions made to the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kodwa said, \u201cLily White is
\none of the oldest sports clubs in the country. Throughout its history, the club
\nalso provided space and opportunity to players who did not have an opportunity
\nto showcase their talents on larger platforms during apartheid. Today, the club
\ncontinues to play an important role at the grassroots level, and in tackling
\nsocial ills in society such as gender-based violence and femicide. I would like
\nto congratulate Lily White on this huge milestone, and wish you many more years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through its many years of
\nstanding, the club has proudly produced three springbok players and several
\nprovincial players and has been a beacon of hope for youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nliaison officer for Cookhouse Wind Farm, funder of the event said, \u201cAs with
\nmany small towns in the region, Adelaide youth look to sports as an escape
\nroute from a life of crime and substance abuse. There is no doubt that sport
\nhas a significant impact on local communities and creates a sense of camaraderie
\nthat unites people, which is why the decision to partner with the club was an
\neasy one for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the
\ncelebrations, Cookhouse Wind Farm donated a three-piece playing kit for the first
\nteam, including 80 branded t-shirts, 20 golf shirts, and 20 caps, as well as
\ncommemorative banners. The catering, decoration, and photography services were
\nall locally sourced, contributing to local economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
