EAST LONDON<\/strong> – An East London charitable non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Small Projects Foundation (SPF), has embarked on a massive campaign of donating sanitary towels to the needy,targeting schools, special schools and rehabilitation centres operating in Buffalo City Metro this Women’s Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through one of its flagship projects known as the Thandolwethu Project, the SPF collects and donates sanitary towels to poor and disadvantaged communities with the assistance of local NGOs that distribute them to identified needy recipients.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charitable organisation recently donated sanitary towels to an East London-based non-profit organisation (NPO) called Rehab for Persons with Disabilities, and the rehab centre distributed them to Zamani Special School, Esinothando Autism Centre and the Ducats Disability Centre in East London.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thembakazi Mqwebedu from Rehab for Persons with Disabilities said the donation from the Small Projects Foundation will make a huge impact as they work with vulnerable and disabled people.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation also donated boxes of sanitary towels to Big Sister, another East London NPO, which helped distribute them to several schools in Maclear including Ngxaza Primary, Jamangile and Thomas Ntaba high schools.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big Sister NPO owner Yeyethu Stemele said they provide peer education in schools and have embarked on a sanitary pads drive in Maclear recently.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This sanitary pads donation will definitely make a huge difference in school attendance and definitely improve the girls’ academic performances,” said Stemele.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SPF started the Thandolwethu Project in partnership with Johnson & Johnson in April 2019, with Vuyo Makeleni as its programme manager. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SPF was established in 1988 and drives several empowerment projects tackling social issues including gender-based violence, domestic violence, HIV\/AIDS, mentorship and leadership programmes, among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
