LUSIKISIKI – The Department of Education spokesperson Malibongwe Mtima confirmed that a principal from a school in Lusikisiki has been arrested on allegations linking him to the rape of a Grade 12 learner on the school premises.
“For now, details are sketchy as there is no report given to the School Management Team (SMT) by the members of the School Governing Body (SGB),” he said.
Mtima added that all the Grade 12 learners wrote their examinations on Monday, 25 October, including the alleged victim. “The situation at the school is under control as learners and educators are still engaged in revision classes,” he said.
Mtima also added that on Monday, 2 November, a district team will visit the school once more to hold meetings with the SGB, SMT and the educators so that stability is maintained.
“Despite that, today the district is planning another visit for the motivation of learners, especially after this incident. Then, again on Monday, after interacting with all the above-mentioned stakeholders,” he stated.
The police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo confirmed that a 37-year-old principal from Lusikisiki is appearing before the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court today, 28 October, for a formal bail application after a rape case was opened against him on Wednesday, 21 October.
