Pandemonium reigned in the fishing village of Hawston, outside Hermanus, on Sunday (11 May) after a shooting spree left two males, aged 24 and 35, dead and another wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Sgt Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police media liaison officer, the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Sunday in Linford Street, Hawston, where Uwellin “Pork” Salies and Vittorio Julies were fatally shot and another male wounded are under investigation. “Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sallies and Julies were declared dead on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victim was taken to a medical facility. According to reports the victims were standing on the pavement when a white BMW passed them by, then stopped before its occupants jumped out and opened fire on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Social media posts about the murder scene were widely shared. In 2020, Hermanus Times<\/em> reported on the arrest of Sallies following a special operation by the anti-gang unit (“Saak na hooggeregshof” Hermanus Times<\/em> 18 November 2020). Four men appeared in the Hermanus Magistrates’ Court on 10 November 2020 on charges relating to the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998. They faced various charges relating to, among other things, a number of murders committed between 2014 and 2019. Salies was also previously arrested in connection with the murder of Francois “Blommie” Johanissen, who was shot dead in his home in Hawston in February 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hermanus detectives were investigating two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
