Whether discovering new talent or reconnecting with old favourites, the 13th FynArts Festival, from 6-16 June, promises fun, inspiration and uplifting experiences.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With four of the eight major performances scheduled for the opening weekend (6-8 June), the festival kicks off with a bang. The opening concert features Magdalene Minnaar (soprano), Sima Mashazi and Timothy Moloi (tenor), accompanied by four top musicians, performing classic favourites and timeless masterpieces.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Strauss Bicentenary Concert with the FynArts Festival Orchestra and soprano Brittany Smith, conducted by Richard Cock, is the ultimate “feel-good” concert of waltzes, marches and polkas.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cape Ballet Africa (CBA), the new modern African ballet company, will perform extracts from Salt in two weekend matin\u00e9es and an evening show. CBA seeks to re-imagine how ballet can look in Africa through respecting tradition and embracing the future. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The final big concert of the opening weekend is Songs of Praise, an inspiring choral music programme that has been a South African phenomenon for more than 30 years. This concert features a massed choir and the Festival Brass Ensemble, conducted by Richard Cock.

The popular Strauss & Co Series of Presentations and Discussions will engage and challenge audiences with specialist speakers presenting a wide range of stimulating topics. The series begins with an in-depth discussion on the arts between Western Cape MEC for Sport, Art and Culture Gayton McKenzie and Dr Ismail Mahomed, Director of the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Other topics, from “The Soul of Vincent van Gogh” and “The Origin of Symbolism in Art” to “Fun Adventures in Space Science” and “The Madness of Orchids” promise to keep audiences captivated. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
