N\u00e1 byna twee jaar se teleurstellings en emosionele wipplank ry kan Cleo Claasen, Qwin Poole en Giano Viret uiteindelik daarna uitsien om hul sokkerstewels en tasse te pak vir ‘n eens in ‘n leeftyd geleentheid om hul sokkervernuf by ‘n spesiale oefenkamp in Spanje te vertoon en te verskerp.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die ergste, vertel Giano, was toe hulle eendag ongeveer drie maande gelede vol opgewondenheid met hul sakke gepak by die bushalte in Kaapstad opdaag om by die res van die span, wat aan die sokkeroefenkamp sou gaan deelneem, aan te sluit \u2013 net om ingelig te word dat hul visums nie goedgekeur is nie en hulle dus nie saam met hul spanmaats kon vertrek nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons was so excited om te sien daar is ons sakke met ons name op. Dis ‘n gevoel wat ek nog nooit gehad het nie \u2013 om te dink hier gaan ons nou oorsee en dinge gaan uiteindelik vir ons gebeur. Maar toe ons hoor ons visums is w\u00e9\u00e9r nie goedgekeur nie, het dit my gebreek. Om te sien daar ry die bus sonder ons\u2009… Daar was ‘n gat in my hart; ek het gehuil, want dit was nog altyd my droom om in ‘n ander land sokker te speel \u2013 nie noodwendig om ‘n kontrak oorsee te kry nie, maar net vir die experience,” vertel hy. “Ek wou opgee, maar Coach (Grant Gillion) se vrou, aunty Daniella, het ons aangemoedig om nie tou op te gooi nie.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die drie en hul ouers, spanmaats en afrigters het hard gewerk om die nodige geld vir die toer in te samel sedert hulle in Junie 2023 ingelig is dat hulle na proewe, wat deur BT Football Recruitment Agency in Kaapstad aangebied is, deurgedring het om deel van ‘n 10 dae lange oefenkamp in Swede te wees. Die eerste terugslag, vertel Gillion, was toe die toer na Swede afgestel is omdat sokkerspelers van ander klubs nie betyds die nodige R50 000 ingesamel het nie. Hulle is toe meegedeel die spelers sou liewer aan ‘n toer na Spanje deelneem. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opofferings\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sedertdien is nog twee van Hawston- sokkerklub se spelers, Rodrigo Natus en Brendon “Theo” Flink, gekies om ook na die oefenkamp in Spanje te gaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flink vertel hy was ‘n bietjie bekommerd toe hy van Giano, Cleo en Qwin se beproewinge gehoor het, maar s\u00ea hy het net vir die beste bly hoop. Di\u00e9 jong man, wat in Desember 2024 reeds na ‘n oefenkamp in Spanje moes gaan, vertel hy moes elke maand “letterlik byna elke sent” van sy salaris spaar en het ook gereeld, met die hulp van sy ouers, worsrolle verkoop om die teiken te haal. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Toe ek hoor hoeveel keer hul visums afgekeur is en hoeveel geld hulle elke keer vir die visum-aansoeke moes betaal, was ek ‘n bietjie bekommerd, want ek moes letterlik raap en skraap om die geld vir die toer bymekaar te maak. Gelukkig is my visum net een keer ge-decline,” vertel hy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anders as sy spanmaats het Rodrigo nie verkope van stapel gestuur om geld in te samel nie. Hy het sy vrye tyd opgegee en oortyd sowel as naweke gewerk. Maar hy is nie een oomblik spyt oor die opefferings nie, s\u00ea hy, want hy het dit gedoen om sy doelwit te bereik.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die vyf is aan die einde van Februarie weer na die ambassade in Kaapstad om vir hul visums aansoek te doen. Di\u00e9 keer, vertel hulle, was hulle reg om tou op te gooi, hul geld te vat en hul droom om oorsee sokker te gaan speel vaarwel te roep indien die aansoek weer afgekeur sou word. “Ek was baie gefrustreerd. Ek het begin voel dis net ‘n mors van tyd en geld, al kon ek sien Coach-hulle doen hul bes,” vertel Cleo.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geluk was egter aan hul kant en hulle is twee dae later meegedeel dat als reg was vir hulle om aan die sokkeroefen kamp in Spanje deel te neem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Toe Coach se vrou met die goeie nuus bel, het ek net stilgeraak; ek was oorweldig,” vertel Giano laggend. Deel van die opwinding vir hom is die feit dat hy vir die eerste keer gaan vlieg, ‘n nuwe land gaan verken en tydens die oefenkamp teen semi-professionele en professionele spelers sal speel.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al die teleurstellings die afgelope maande, s\u00ea Cleo, het veroorsaak dat hy “niks gevoel het” toe hy die goeie nuus kry nie. “Dit voel nog te unreal. Ek sal seker eers opgewonde raak wanneer ons uiteindelik op die vliegtuig sit.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al vyf jong mans stem saam dat die toer na Real Madrid-sokkerklub se tuisveld, die Santiago Bernab\u00e9u, om live wedstyde te sien, gewis een van die hoogtepunte sal wees.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qwin, die jongste van die groep, s\u00ea hy sien daarna uit om “al die mooi vroumense te ontmoet” en sy vaardigheid teen meer ervare spelers te toets.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belangrike lewensles\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Oor een ding stem die vyf jong spelers saam: “Opgee is nie ‘n opsie nie.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Die tyd wanneer jy voel jy wil opgee, is die tyd wanneer dinge besig is om te gebeur sodat jou drome kan waar word. Dis die belangrikste les wat ek geleer het en iets wat ek vir die res van my lewe saam met my sal dra,” s\u00ea Giano.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Cleo voeg by: “Hou net aan; moet nooit moed opgee op jou droom nie.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gillion en sy spelers bedank almal wat die afgelope maande al hul geldinsamelings ondersteun het. “Baie dankie ook aan Clicks Station Mall, wat vir ons vyf spelers toiletware geskenk het. Hulle gaan dit gewis nodig h\u00ea.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
