On the 17 December 2019, a
\ndevastating wildfire destroyed Lismore
\nWinefarm<\/span><\/a> in Greyton, Western Cape  \u2013 the home and livelihood of
\nwell-known pioneering farmer and winemaker, Samantha O\u2019Keefe (48) and her two
\nchildren, Quinn (14) and Keenan (16).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire which
\nstarted in the nearby nature reserve and initially posed no threat to Lismore
\nis believed to have been started by children with malicious intent according to
\nOverberg fire chief, Reinard Geldenhuys.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unexpectedly the
\nfire moved over to the vineyard and in no less than 30 minutes, the blaze had
\ndestroyed Sam\u2019s homestead, cellar and everything she had built over the last 17
\nyears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an act of bravery, Sam
\ndrove into the blaze, hoping to rescue her farmworkers and animals.
\nUnfortunately, two cats and one dog didn\u2019t survive the fires but fortunately
\nall staff members made it to safety.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friends and
\nfamily have<\/span>
\ntravelled far and wide to count the losses and console the O\u2019Keefe family
\nduring this difficult time. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To help Sam cover some of
\nher immediate financial commitments and support her in the rebuilding of <\/span>Lismore Winefarm<\/span><\/a><\/span>, re-planting the vineyards,
\nre-building the family home and winemaking facilities, a crowdfunding campaign
\nhas launched on BackaBuddy.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign went live on
\nthe 18 December 2019, and in less than 24 hours, over R224 000 has been raised
\ntowards the fundraising target of R500 000 with contributions from 130 donors
\nboth locally and abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Sam
\nis distraught by the tragedy, she remains hopeful that Lismore will be returned
\nto its former glory. <\/span>The family are humbled and overwhelmed by the generous support
\nthey have received from the Greyton community, previous patrons, as well as
\nfriends and strangers from South Africa and all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
