\u201cTwo members of the Hermanus Public Protection
\n(HPP) team reported seeing two women walking along a cliff pathway towards the
\nRietfontein Bridge just after 10:00 on 25 January. They were reportedly
\ncarrying a large and heavy bag with them,\u201d says Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch
\nmanager for Fidelity ADT. HPP is a ratepayer funded initiative, in partnership
\nwith Fidelity ADT.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another HPP officer stopped the women and asked to
\nsearch the bag, which led to the discovery of a large quantity of tools and
\nbuilding material items. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe women were questioned and they claimed that an
\nunknown person in Zwelihle had asked that they collect the bag where it was
\nhidden in bushes. The manager of a nearby building site however later confirmed
\nthat the items were his and that they had been stolen,\u201d says Boshoff. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women were taken into custody on a charge of
\nhousebreaking and theft.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile in other incidents, HPP camera operators
\nhelped police and local security partners apprehend three suspects in
\nconnection with the alleged flouting of curfew regulations. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe CCTV operators noticed a group of men walking
\nfrom the New Harbour, early on 22 January at around 00:04 carrying small bags
\nwith them. Operators alerted the Hermanus SAPS, the HPP specialized response
\nunits along with members of the Hermanus Neighbourhood Watch,\u201d explains
\nBoshoff.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen the group saw the approaching responding
\nteams, they scattered and fled, but three of the suspects were successfully
\ndetained. They were taken to the police station and issued with fines for
\ncontravening disaster management regulations.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate incident, CCTV operators also helped
\nin the recovery of suspected stolen goods in North Cliff. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOperators dispatched the HPP specialized response
\nunit when they noticed three men pushing a trolley along Disa Street early on
\n21 January. The group was stopped, and the trolley was searched, which led to
\nthe discovery of two large wooden poles which still appeared to be in a good
\ncondition,\u201d says Boshoff.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspects showed the officer where they had
\nallegedly found the poles, but a neighbour disagreed with their explanation and
\nassured the officer that their explanation was not plausible.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur officer instructed the suspects to put the
\npoles back where they found them, and then escorted the men out of the area. No
\nformal charge was laid against them,\u201d says Boshoff.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

. Members from the Hermanus Public Protection (HPP)
\nteam managed to apprehend four suspects in two separate incidents. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first incident, on 2 February, saw two suspects
\nbeing nabbed after they allegedly stole clothing from a local store. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHPP Specialised Response Unit officer Bantu
\nGqibilizwe received an alert from one of his colleagues, describing how two
\nsuspects had reportedly stolen a piece of clothing from a shop on Mitchell
\nStreet, before fleeing towards East Cliff. Officer Gqibilizwe used the information
\nhe was provided to quickly track down the suspects and apprehend them,\u201d says
\nFidelity ADT\u2019s branch manager for Hermanus, Marius Boshoff. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were taken back to the shop, where the store
\nmanager positively identified the suspects as well as the stolen piece of
\nclothing. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a second incident that same day, the Hermanus
\ncontrol room received a call from Fidelity ADT Area Manager, Donovan van der
\nWesthuizen at approximately 10:00 reporting that a member of the community saw
\ntwo suspects fleeing with a stolen laptop and cables in North Cliff and that he
\nneeded assistance and back up from the HPP and Fidelity ADT team.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonovan was off duty at the time but still managed
\nto pick up the incident and respond. He is someone who always goes the extra
\nmile for our customers and is passionate about keeping Hermanus safe. Donovan
\nhas been involved in several incidents over the years where he has assisted
\nresidents in need or caught criminals in the act,\u201d explained Boshoff. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The HPP CCTV camera operators started tracking the
\nmovements of the two suspects while sharing this information with the
\nresponding officers as well as Hermanus Neighbourhood watch responders. It was
\nat that time that a confirmation was received that a home in the area had
\nearlier been burgled.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonovan and his Fidelity ADT and HPP colleagues
\nused this information to pursue and soon apprehend both suspects, despite the
\nfact that the two had split up and fled in different directions. Both were
\nhanded over into the custody of Hermanus SAPS.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell done to everyone involved in this week\u2019s
\nsuccessful arrests. It shows again how modern technology together with
\ncommitted and dedicated personnel can form a winning team in the fight against
\ncrime,\u201d says Boshoff.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) is a non-profit
\ncompany (NPC), established to provide public safety and top-up cleansing
\nservices in the geographical designated area of Hermanus. It is funded by the
\nratepayers through the Overstrand Municipality Special Rating Area By-law and
