Connectivity is key, but what is an effective and efficient way
\nof providing fibre, and what differentiates Huawei Technologies solutions from solutions
\nused by others when it comes to fibre deployment to customers\u2019 premises? Theo
\nHess of Huawei Technologies, Huawei Accounts Division, explains why Huawei\u2019s
\nsolution and methodology is making a difference, leading the way in \u201cfibre to
\nthe home\u201d. According to Hess, by now, the benefits of using fibre optic cables
\ninstead of copper is common knowledge. Fibre optic cables transmit data using light
\nto carry data from one point to another compared to electrical pulses used in copper
\ncables. Since 2016 Hess has been involved with engineering and building
\nnetworks for Huawei Technologies, and he says thousands of homes have been
\npassed, across Gauteng (Johannesburg), North Eastern (Pretoria), Eastern
\n(Durban), and Western (Cape Town) regions and in the process of being connected
\nto Huawei\u2019s QuickODN Fibre net\u00adwork using the OEM (original equipment
\nmanufacturer) supplied parts. Before one can understand what exactly QuickODN
\nis, one needs to understand that there are different ways to provide fibre
\nconnections to homes and businesses, which is something that Hess refers to as
\nFTTH (Fibre to the Home). The most common way is the traditional conventional
\nway, which is more expensive, consumes more time and requires skilled workers
\nto install these fibre connections. This is the fibre technology solution,
\nuntil recently and before Quick ODN, being deployed in the Overberg area. The
\nnew Huawei Quick ODN Fibre method is literally a plug[1]and-play
\nsolution that requires zero splicing, while traditional fibre optics require up
\nto nine splices per home at a time. This consumes much more time. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes QuickODN unique?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe new pre connectorised solution provided by Huawei Technologies
\nfacilitates faster installation times with more emphasis on cost efficiency and
\nmaintaining high quality standards. While Huawei is fully capable of deploying
\nboth solutions, it has responded to its customers\u2019 requirements by providing
\nthe Huawei QuickODN solution,\u201d says Hess. This inno\u00advative new technology solution
\nrequires no splicing, cable routing or sealing. The deploy\u00adment methodology improves
\nTime To Market (TTM) by 30% and reduce maintenance cost by 90% by a simple
\nreplacement method. Some steps in the process, especially where splicing is
\nrequired, now only takes 15 minutes compared to the traditional installation,
\nwhich takes up to 90 minutes. The solution is currently being deployed in Cape
\nTown areas as well as the greater Hermanus, Caledon and Kleinmond.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
