Law enforcement officers from the Overstrand K9 and Task Team Unit warn there has been a significant increase in armed robberies in the Overstrand area and urge the community to be vigilant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Johan du Toit, Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement and Task Team, most of the victims were attacked in broad daylight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese criminals appear to be in and out only for easy pickings, but there is always the worry of personal injury,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t make it easy for criminals, and adhere to the following: .<\/span> Don\u2019t become complacent about personal security;.<\/span> Trust your instincts. If something or someone makes you uneasy, leave the area; .<\/span> When out and about, be aware of your surroundings and the people around you; .<\/span> Close gates, set alarms, get to know your neighbours and resident associations and be alert; .<\/span> Avoid carrying large amounts of cash; .<\/span> Do not attract unwanted attention by openly displaying cameras or other valuables;.<\/span> Motorists should refrain from keeping anything of value on the seats where items are easily visible;.<\/span> Don\u2019t take unnecessary risks \u2013 don\u2019t walk or hike alone. Solo cycling is discouraged;.<\/span> If you choose to go for a walk along the Cliff Path or go for a hike in the nature reserves, tell somebody where you\u2019re going and when to expect you
