A Hermanus High matriculant\u2019s dream has come true, after he was offered a bursary to study software engineering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caleb Riordan (18) placed second in his grade with an average of 90,7%. He reached out to the world for assistance to help him study software engineering at Eduvos Institute in Claremont (Cape Town) because his family couldn\u2019t afford to send him to study further. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caleb opened a BackaBuddy page, and the community immediately started sending him donations, and soon after he received a job offer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy mom received a call a couple of days ago from Eduvos Institute informing her it was issuing a bursary to me after initially declining it,\u201d he related. \u201cThe institution said it had made a mistake in doing so and wanted to inform me of its reconsideration. Suffice to say, I was elated to hear the good news.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caleb had to overcome another stumbling block when his family\u2019s car started having electrical problems and the only auto electrician in Kleinmond was on holiday in this period and couldn\u2019t fix the problem. \u201cLuckily someone offered us a lift,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His mother, Vanessa, says she is extremely proud of her son. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCaleb has maintained a strong academic record throughout his schooling,\u201d she said. \u201cTwo days ago we received a phone call from Eduvos and he was told he had been a successful candidate for the merit scholarship. He was awarded it this past Saturday (12 February).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
