The Overstrand Whale Boxing Club (OWBC) showed its mettle at the Easter Boxing Tournament and brought home the trophy for the Best Female Boxer, the Best Male Boxer and the Best Performing Club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coach Mzi Damesi, coach Thando Damesi and 13 boxers of the OWBC travelled to the Eastern Cape for the tournament, which took place from 15 to 17 April. Mzi reported the club won 10 gold medals and one silver at the event in Umthatha on Friday 15 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNkatliseng Qheya won the big trophy for the best female boxer of the tournament in Umthatha,\u201d Mzi said proudly. \u201cOur club won the trophy for the best club at the tournament in Umthatha.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Saturday 16 April, the club participated in the event held in Duncan Village, East London where Kolunga Ndleleni won the trophy for the best male boxer of the tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe whole club won nine gold and two silver medals,\u201d said Mzi. \u201cEast London is the top district in boxing, so we are happy to have achieved such great results in that district. I am so proud of my boxers who worked extremely hard to achieve these results.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He thanked OWBC\u2019s main sponsor, EMS, which sponsored the club\u2019s accommodation, food and transport. \u201cThank you also to Burnley FC in the UK for the beautiful T-shirts and Zwelihle businessman \u2018Mthura\u2019 Zukisani Soqwathulo, of Indalo Yethu Construction and Projects, who donated R10 000.
