Leading abalone farming company Abagold has received the Special Friend of the Sea 2022 Sustainability Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On 25 June the producer of this highly valued luxury seafood company was recognised for its outstanding efforts to preserve and sustainably produce the species. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was selected from more than 1 000 companies that formed part of the international certification programme from the World Sustainability Organization, and were up for its Friend of the Sea 2022 Sustainability Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abagold is one of South Africa\u2019s most important and largest abalone farms. The company exports live, canned and dried abalone worldwide. Also known as the \u201cmother of pearl\u201d, abalone are a unique seafood species, admired for their looks and delicious taste. Their shell dazzles the eye with its shimmering colours, while the meat inside is considered a delicacy and one of the most expensive seafoods in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abagold celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021 and has consistently sought to embrace sustainability throughout its production process.
