The exhibition area of the Caledon Museum was transformed into a sea of colour on Saturday 17 September. The historical black-and-white photos of the permanent exhibition have temporarily made way for the colourful \u201cPictures of the Overberg Art Celebration\u201d, an art competition for learners from Grade R to 9 from all over the Overberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Caledon Museum launched the competition in 2015, inviting the Overberg Education Department (OED) to be part of this initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2016 the department took over the event due to staff changes at the Museum, and in 2018 it was extended to being a Western Cape Education Department Provincial Art Celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following a two-year break due to Covid-19, the event again took place this year with a collaboration between OED and the Caledon Museum. And what a joyful and colourful event it was. Of the almost 400 entries received, 150 were selected to be exhibited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twenty-seven learners received certificates and gold, silver or bronze medals at the gala event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lance Abrahams, acting director of the Overberg Education District, gave the welcoming speech. WCED Senior Curriculum Planner Anina Lundie was the keynote speaker and encouraged learners to continue with their art during their school careers. Margie Clarcke of OED handed over certificates, medals and prizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Odette Weir, Regional Manager of Overberg Museums, said: \u201cCollaboration between different departments is very important for the sustainability of museums and this exhibition is a good example of how well things can work when you collaborate with different departments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition is open to the public until 21 October. Entrance fee, which includes a museum tour if requested, is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
