Established in 1952, as an independent, special needs school, Camphill has offered generations of children the opportunity for specialised education and care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Camphill School, established by Hermanus resident and mother, May Redman, with the support of Dr Karl K\u00f6nig, founder of the worldwide Camphill Movement, perpetuates the philosophy that all children, no matter what their ability, carry within them a divine spark of humanity, worthy of love, respect and nurturing. In this peaceful and caring environment, children are assisted to develop to their full, unique potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of only a small number of special needs schools in the vast, largely-rural Overberg region, Camphill caters for day learners, aged from seven to 18 years. Approximately 98% of their 55 learners come from the communities in and around Hermanus. Their parents are often unable to contribute or can only afford to make a small contribution to their school fees. The subsidy from the WCED together with the school fees covers approximately 35% of their annual budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Camphill School the learners are happy and self-confident. They are loved for the special people they are and offered a chance at self-actualisation and hope.
