Altogether 14 men and women\u2019s netball teams played their hearts out at the Western Cape Inter-District Club Championship Tournament held in Hawston on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Teams representing the Cape Winelands District, the Overberg, Cape Town, Central Karoo and West Coast Districts competed in the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The women from Hermanus and Overhills netball clubs and the men from Happy Hearts represented the Overberg District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team from Hermanus achieved third place on the Women\u2019s A-Division log, while Overhills and Happy Hearts ended fourth in their respective divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kansas City, from Mitchell\u2019s Plain, Cape Town, were crowned champions in the Women\u2019s A Division and in the B Division Paarl from the Cape Winelands District ended in first place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mbekweni men\u2019s team (Cape Winelands) ended at the top of their log with Hurricanes from CT in second position and Spartans from the Central Karoo third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Llowellon Arendse, chairperson of the Overberg Netball Federation and secretary of the Western Cape Netball Federation, said the event was a big success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur clubs did well, and hosting the event in Hawston gave the town good exposure as they are working to develop their teams,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Councillor Rugene Dees, who welcomed the participating teams, described the event as a perfect opportunity to \u201cbe a spectator of such great hand-eye coordination and healthy sportsmanship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She inspired the teams with the following quote by Michael Jordan: \u201cTalent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dees also thanked Arendse, Bennie Saayman, the president of the Western Cape Netball Federation, Darrel Pekeur, the programme director, all umpires, timekeepers, technical teams, medics, team captains, coaches and supporters for elevating the game of netball. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
