Several cancellations of the launch of young author Jan\u00e9lle Hendricks\u2019 book Grandpa\u2019s Treasure Chest<\/span> have not phased her at all. In fact, the first edition of the book has recently been published and is now being translated into Afrikaans as Oupa se skatkis<\/span> and plans for an isiXhosa translation are also underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jan\u00e9lle, from Riviersonderend, was only 10 when she wrote and illustrated the book, which is about a kind-hearted old man who had the most beautiful flower garden and who, after discovering a hidden secret buried in his favourite garden spot, decides to do something to uplift his community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jan\u00e9lle has written numerous other stories as well, and they all share an important life or moral lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gisela Hendricks, Jan\u00e9lle\u2019s mother, says:\u201d Jan\u00e9lle\u2019s book inspired the registration of the Alpha to Omega Learning Academy, where she assists and promotes reading and literacy. She hopes to continue to inspire her peers and to promote reading.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
