Donkeys are often among the most neglected and abused of animals, but a lucky few that have found refuge at the EARS Donkey Sanctuary can now live happy, peaceful lives with loving care from the EARS team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EARS was registered as a non-profit organisation seven years ago, but the first donkey, Genevieve, arrived 12 years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Penny James of EARS says: \u201cOur main focus is the care and well-being of our sanctuary animals. We provide care and the relief of immediate suffering to all equines in the Greyton valley. We also teach compassionate animal care to youth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sanctuary currently cares for 15 donkeys, eight rescue horses and Jelly Tot, a Shetland pony referred to as the CEO of the sanctuary. An additional three horses pay for their keep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Occasionally some donkeys and horses are rehomed to approved homes. \u201cWe rehome them in our area so we can keep an eye on their well-being,\u201d said James.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sanctuary also has the EARS shop in Main Road, Greyton, where second-hand books, clothes and other treasures can be bought. EARS sanctuary, situated on the Jagersbos farm in the Bereaville area, is open to visitors by appointment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
