The Overstrand Municipality appeals to residents to use water sparingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This appeal comes after Eskom announced that Stage 6 load shedding will be implemented indefintely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWith the recent move by Eskom to Stage 6 for electricity load shedding, with periods of interruption of electricity supply of up to 4,5 hours at a time, and up to 12 hours in total in a 24-hour period, the Overstrand Municipality\u2019s water and sanitation infrastructure is coming under increasing pressure,\u201d reads a statement by the municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cResidents are requested to use water sparingly, as this will assist in, firstly, conserving reservoir levels and secondly, reducing wastewater flows and pressure on sewerage pump stations. Overstrand Municipality is doing its utmost to manage this within its capacity and available resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUnfortunately, not all installations are equipped with generators at this stage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents of some high lying areas may experience low water pressure and even water-supply interruptions as a result of extended load-shedding periods, when reservoirs cannot be filled adequately, during periods between load shedding or where booster pump systems are out of operation during load shedding events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some sewerage pump stations not equipped with generators may spill during extended periods of load shedding. Warning signs will be erected when necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Theewaterskloof Municipality also released a statement saying the Caledon water supply is under risk due to Stage 6 load shedding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOverberg Water, the primary water supplier of Theewaterskloof Municipality, indicated that due to Eskom load shedding Stage 6 it is forced to shut down the supply of water to the municipality\u2019s primary reservoir. This is necessary for Overberg Water to build up its reservoir\u2019s capacities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe municipal reservoirs are currently in a stable condition. The municipality, however, urges the broader community to use water sparingly to avoid a significant drop in the water levels of the reservoirs. As part of the contingency arrangements by Theewaterskloof Municipality to ensure continued water supply and limit disruption to the town of Caledon, four generators will be operating at strategic locations.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
