Brazen robbers hit on two businesses in the Overberg over the weekend and made off with large amounts of money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the first incident on Sunday, staff of Pep Stores in Kleinmond were left shaken when two robbers made off with a stolen car and cash after robbing them at gunpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Warrant Officer Martin Mostert, spokesperson for the Kleinmond police, reported two men entered the shop at approximately 12:30 on Sunday. One of them, he said, reportedly used a firearm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe suspects allegedly forced the store manager to open the safe, from which they took an undisclosed amount of money. They also took the keys to the manager\u2019s white Chevrolet bakkie with CAM registration, which they used to flee the scene. No shots were fired and nobody was injured.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police later found the vehicle abandoned in 13th Avenue, close to the Riemvasmaak informal settlement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDNA samples and fingerprints were taken,\u201d Mostert said. \u201cThe suspects remain at large. The investigation into the business robbery continues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later that same day three armed robbers made off with a large amount of cash as well as cigarettes and an airtime machine which they had stolen at Montevista Cafe in Botrivier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Colonel Joe Hartnick, head of the Caledon detectives, reports that three men armed with firearms entered the shop and allegedly forced the shop owner into a back room where they tied him and his two workers up with telephone cords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey forced the owner to hand over a large amount of money. It is believed they also took money from the tills. In addition to this, they also stole cigarettes to the value of R3 000 as well as the airtime machine,\u201d Hartnick stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shop owner managed to untie himself and the workers and called the police. Forensic experts were also on the scene to take DNA samples and fingerprints. Despite this, the suspects remain at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
