Die jong seun van Botrivier was volgens berigte verlede Maandag (13 Februarie) van die skool af op pad huis toe, toe hy deur \u2019n groot afleweringsvoertuig van Coca-Cola getref is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Een ooggetuie het na bewering gesien hoe die seun \u2019n paar meter ver gesleep is voordat die vragmotorbestuurder stilgehou het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDie ooggetuie het vertel hy het die seun hoor gil en toe gesien hoe die kind deur die vragmotor gesleep word. Iemand anders het aan die bestuurder gewys hy moet stop,\u201d vertel Eldrin April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ontstoke inwoners het hulle na die toneel gehaas en angstig toegekyk hoe die seun deur paramedici op die toneel behandel is voordat hy hospitaal toe vervoer is. Hy is later uit die hospitaal ontslaan en sterk volgens berigte goed aan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

April beweer die bestuurder se asem het na drank geruik toe hy hom gekonfronteer het. Ten spyte hiervan, s\u00ea hy, het die polisie eers die bestuurder ingelaai en vir bloedtoetse geneem nadat die gemeenskap \u2019n raadslid, Mekie Plato-Mentoor, ontbied en sy daarop aangedring het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priscilla Urquhart, Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages se kommunikasiehoof, het egter hierdie bewerings ten sterkste ontken. Volgens Urquhart het die bestuurder die betrokke dag nie die normale roete gebruik nie omdat mense na bewering klippe na die voertuig gegooi het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVolgens ons inligting het die voertuig om \u2019n skerp draai gegaan toe die kind, wat aan die voertuig wou raak, getref is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit is \u2019n baie groot voertuig, dus kon die bestuurder nie die kind sien nie. Die nou paaie is ongelukkig iets wat buite ons beheer is,\u201d het Urquhart verduidelik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plato-Mentoor s\u00ea sy het met \u2019n ooggetuie gepraat oor bewerings dat die kind dalk aan die trok gehang het. Die ooggetuie, s\u00ea sy, het haar ingelig dat dit nie die geval was nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens April het hy die maatskappy reeds verlede jaar gekontak rakende sy kommer dat die swaar afleweringsvoertuie \u2019n kind kan tref wanneer dit aflewerings in die woonbuurt met sy nou strate doen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plato-Mentoor het bevestig sy was in kontak met rolspelers van Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages, wat voorgeneem het om die gebied binnekort te besoek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urquhart het beklemtoon die veiligheid van bestuurders in die maatskappy se diens sowel as ander padgebruikers, insluitend voetgangers, is hul \u201cnommer-een-prioriteit\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Urquhart ondersoek die maatskappy alternatiewe maniere om aflewerings te doen in gebiede waar paaie baie nou is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEen van die opsies is vir die afleweringsvoertuig om buite hierdie woongebiede te stop sodat klante hul besendings met kleiner voertuie oplaai. Dit is egter nie vir almal moontlik nie aangesien sommige van hierdie klante hul eie uitdagings met vervoer het.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kol. Joe Hartnick, die Caledon-polisie se speurhoof, het bevestig \u2019n saak van roekelose bestuur word ondersoek en \u2019n bloedmonster is van die bestuurder van die voertuig geneem. \u201cIndien die uitslae toon dat die bestuurder onder die invloed van alkohol was, sal die dossier aan die senior aanklaer gestuur word vir \u2019n beslissing en die bestuurder kan van dronkbestuur aangekla word,\u201d het Hartnick verduidelik.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
