One of the biggest successes for the Cape Agulhas Municipal District (CAM) over the Easter long weekend was that no road fatalities were recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lieutenant-Colonel Gustav Tamboer, commander of the Bredasdorp Police Station and coordinator of the Easter weekend safety operations, stated he was very proud of the successes of the integrated operations involving dedicated stakeholders such as the provincial and local traffic, Overberg Disaster Management, reservists and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had no serious accidents on our roads and no fatalities whatsoever. From 5 to 12 April we executed 26 awareness campaigns, during which we distributed 1 164 pamphlets, stopped 350 vehicles, tested 43 vehicles and issued fines to the value of R28 400.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The integrated operations also yielded the arrest of two suspects caught with 1 084 kg marijuana (dagga) worth an estimated R 4 000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat was of concern over this weekend, was that seven persons were arrested for drunken driving,\u201d Tamboer said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI want to thank every law-enforcement officer of CAM for their hard work this past weekend. It shows once again that integrated operations between all stakeholders is the key to reducing crime in our municipal area,\u201d said Tamboer, \u201cand perhaps we have a higher power to thank for that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
