These are the words of Municipal Manager Dean O\u2019Neill after baboons wreaked havoc in certain areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOverstrand Municipality can\u2019t win the battle of effective waste management on its own, so it is imperative that everyone co-operate by using \u2018baboon-proof bins\u2019,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the municipal Solid Waste bylaw, non-compliant residents living in baboon-affected areas can be fined up to R1 500 after an official notice has been served. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The declared problem animal areas are Kleinmond (including Arabella), Betty\u2019s Bay, Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, portion of Onrus, Vo\u00eblklip, Fernkloof (including the Golf Estate), Hermanus Heights, Eastcliff, Kwaaiwater and a portion of Hawston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Law Enforcement officers will follow-up on waste-collection days to remind households who do not have an animal-proof container to rectify this situation as soon as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
