Intelligence-driven operations by Overstrand Municipality\u2019s Rapid Response Unit (RRU) enjoyed success as they confiscated large amounts of abalone with a combined value of more than R1 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Law Enforcement officers executed a number of these intelligence-driven operations across the Overstrand aimed at tackling drug dealers and abalone poaching. As part of the crime prevention operations they also conducted roadblocks and stop-and-searches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overstrand Deputy Mayor Lindile Ntsabo, who is also Mayco Member for Protection Services, reports that the officials issued fines for various road traffic violations, including parking causing an obstruction, driving without a licence and for vehicles not being roadworthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday 12 July, the officials confiscated a bakkie load of abalone with an estimated street value of R680 000 in 7th Street, Vo\u00eblklip. Ntsabo confirmed that 3 745 units of abalone were found inside the white Ford Bantam bakkie with CAA registration. The vehicle and the abalone were handed in to the Hermanus police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a separate incident on Thursday 13 July, the RRU officials confiscated a Chevrolet sedan and 1 484 abalone at the R43\/R44 Kleinmond crossing. The abalone is worth R270 000 and was handed over to the Caledon Police, said Ntsabo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
