The Overstrand Rural Safety Unit (RSUs) arrested nine suspects between 11 and 13 August with the assistance of other municipal law-enforcement agencies as well as the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One suspect was charged with the illegal possession of abalone after finding 190 units of the shellfish with an estimated street value of R43 835 in his possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officers also arrested one person on a charge of public unrest and helped apprehend seven wanted suspects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen, said: \u201cGiven the taxi strike and the associated challenges, I am so pleased to note our units have still been able to ensure this criminal element is being removed from our streets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey are certainly contributing to creating a safer Western Cape, in which all can live in improved environments and in dignity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs the Western Cape Government our support for these units will not waiver, as their interventions and operations are assisting us in achieving our ultimate goal, which is to reduce the murder rate by [at least] 50% by the year 2029.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Allen urged communities to work closely with these units, along with all other law-enforcement units, including the South African Police Service, neighbourhood watches (NHWs) and community policing forums (CPFs) in the effort to eradicate crime. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
