The Overstrand Rural Safety Unit (RSU) continues to make inroads with the fight against crime after various successful operations, in which 16 arrests were made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between 15 to 27 August the unit, with the assistance of various other municipal law enforcement agencies and South African Police Service, arrested the 16 for a variety of transgressions, including possession of a dangerous weapon, two for possession of abalone and five were wanted suspects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The unit also confiscated 461 units of abalone with an estimated street value of R86 233, diving equipment consisting of flippers and a pouch bag and stolen goods, including a flat-screen TV, remote, diving booties and four stolen cellphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marcellino Martin, spokesperson of Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Reagen Allen, said: \u201cWe commend our K-9 and Rural Safety units for the continued manner in which they are assisting us in creating safer communities. It is important that criminals be brought to their knees.
