The Pictures of the Overberg Art Celebration, an art competition for Grade R to Grade 9 learners, was once again a huge success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Overberg Education District, in partnership with the Caledon Museum, hosted this 2023 Visual Art competition, where learners from various OED schools were invited to enter their art, either in 2D or 3D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of the many entries received, 225 were chosen for display in the Caledon Museum. Winners in the different categories received their medals on Saturday 9 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Margie Clarke, GET coordinator, encouraged the learners to keep on being creative and told them about the many possible art-orientated careers they could follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ronaldo Bantom, a young self-taught artist from Bot River, now residing in Fisherhaven, was the guest speaker. Drawing in the hyper-realistic style with pencil or charcoal on paper, he gave an inspiring talk on his art journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marlon Sauls, education officer at the Caledon Museum, said: \u201cIt\u2019s a great honour for the Caledon Museum to exhibit these stories created by our youth through art, as this project also creates interest among the youth in the cultural and heritage aspects of our society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Odette Weir, regional manager of Overberg Museums, said: \u201cPictures of the Overberg are increasing every year, and we as the Caledon Museum will definitely always want to be involved in [this ferment].\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
