The Speaker\u2019s Office of the Theewaterskloof Municipality presented a full and interesting programme to celebrate Riviersonderend\u2019s centenary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The festival, which was held over the Heritage long weekend, started in the community hall on Thursday 21 September with the elders of the community in honour of the late TWK Mayor Kallie Papier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayor Mary Liebenberg and Speaker Derick Appel opened the proceedings. Altogether 180 elders were present as guests, among them 93-year-old ouma Colla Japhta. The event was filled with excitement, with the elders telling stories and doing role-plays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All the elders received care packages, but what must definitely count as the highlight of the opening ceremony was when a number of the elderly residents received their title deeds from the Human Settlements Department. These title deeds recipients are residents of the first houses that were built before 1994, but a total of 22 of these pre-1994 houses had never been transferred to the residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The balance of the 22 transfers is currently being processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rest of the festival weekend was jam-packed with activities including various sporting events, a talent competition, live band performances and a thanksgiving church service on Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
