The Cliff Path Management Group (CPMG), the organisation responsible for maintaining the 12 km of scenic pathways along Hermanus\u2019 coastal cliff line, has, despite funding constraints and with thanks to much-needed donations, recently completed a section of the concrete path at Blow Hole near the new harbour, and reconstructed sections in need of repair near Kwaaiwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLoved by Hermanus residents, visitors and long-stay international \u2018swallows\u2019 alike, the Cliff Path is a valuable tourism and conservation asset for Hermanus,\u201d said the spokesperson of the CPMG, Ross Dewar. \u201cForming part of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, the Cliff Path is a nature lover\u2019s paradise, attracting thousands of whale watchers every year for some of the best shore-based whale watching in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the Cliff Path was originally constructed by the Hermanus Botanical Society, and is now maintained by the CPMG and local municipality. \u201cThe CPMG, which is funded primarily through public donations, are passionate about \u2018Brand Cliff Path\u2019 and are working hard to maintain and enhance this valuable asset, despite funding constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThanks to donations, the CPMG has recently completed the concrete path at the \u2018Blowhole\u2019 near the New Harbour, and re-constructed sections of the path near \u2018Kwaaiwater\u2019,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
General wear and tear, vandalism and vegetation growth require continual input, and the CPMG\u2019s regular activities include:.<\/span> Removing alien vegetation;.<\/span> Cleaning, trimming and cutting the grass verges and vegetation;.<\/span> Trimming overhead trees and branches;.<\/span> Updating and replacing signage along the path; .<\/span> Maintaining the concrete paths; .<\/span> Maintaining and upgrading the benches and bins along the path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How to get involved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CPMG welcomes support from residents and visitors alike. Volunteers are welcome to join the team during their activities, and donations to fund the team (eg for equipment, clothing, supervision, transport and wages) are always very much appreciated.
