Overstrand Municipal Manager Dean O\u2019Neill confirmed that two suspects were arrested in Hawston on 29 December for possession of drugs in a joint intelligence-driven operation involving officers of Overstrand Municipality\u2019s Rapid Response Unit, Task Team, K9 and Reaction units and the local police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe arrests followed the execution of search warrants across the Overstrand, uncovering a significant cache of illicit substances,\u201d O\u2019Neill stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the search, officers found cocaine with an estimated street value of R30 000 and six large transparent plastic bags (bankies) containing tik with a street value of R5 600.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two suspects were arrested and have appeared in Hermanus Magistrates\u2019 Court on drug-related charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
O\u2019Neill added that in one of the many joint vehicle check-point (VCP) and high-visibility patrols on the R43, law enforcement officers from the joint Rapid Response, Task Team and K9 and Reaction Units confiscated a huge amount of drugs when they pulled over a taxi for a routine inspection and permit check near Vermont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 5 060 Mandrax tablets with a street value of R303 600 and 299,55 g of tik in a black backpack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe estimated value of the tik is R239 640,\u201d O\u2019Neill said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe suspect was arrested and the suspect and exhibits were taken to the Hermanus Police Station, where a case docket was opened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, nine other suspects wanted for various offences and multiple crimes in the Overstrand were arrested following diligent work by the Task Team and police detectives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
