The police in the Overberg District had their hands full last week as armed robbers targeted a number of businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In one incident a large group of armed robbers made off with cash, expensive shoes, clothes and sports bags after robbing Tekkie Town in Grabouw\u2019s main road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sergeant Abigail Naidoo, a spokesperson for the police in the Overberg district, reported the incident occurred about 13:15 on Thursday 4 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cApproximately six suspects, all armed with firearms, entered the store, forced everyone into a back room and threatened them to keep quiet,\u201d Naidoo stated. \u201cThey robbed the store of clothes, shoes and sports bags. An amount of cash was also taken from the cash register.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspects fled the scene on foot and are still at large. A business robbery docket was opened and all possible leads are being followed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a separate incident on the same day a man delivering bread at a spaza shop in Main Road, Bot River, had a close escape when two suspects attacked him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Naidoo the man noticed two men standing outside the shop and identified them as the same men who had confronted him earlier that week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne suspect allegedly threatened him with a knife while the other pointed a firearm at him. The suspect fired one shot at him but luckily the complainant managed to take cover and the shot missed him. One cartridge was found on the scene,\u201d Naidoo reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both suspects were arrested a short while later and appeared in the Caledon Magistrates\u2019 Court on charges of armed robbery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police are also looking for two suspects who fired a number of shots while trying to rob a small business in Klipspringer Street, Bot River on 1 April at about 20:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe two unknown men entered the shop and demanded money from the owner, who informed them there was no money,\u201d said Naidoo. \u201cWhen they returned to the shop they fired shots before running away.
