Bikini or hoody? Beach or mall? Easter weekend certainly had us guessing which season it was. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In true Cape style Hermanus showed off all her seasons in one weekend. Even the weather report didn\u2019t get the memo, nor did the mozzies, which thought it was still summer, and which were sent flying backwards before they could grab a bite. All the hairdos done for the festive dos all looked the same eventually, with the wind-blown look the latest trend. And while the wind helped the Easter bunny hide chocolate eggs (which, thankfully, were not melting this time due to a somewhat colder spell), light rain drizzles waited in the wings for their cue to enter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every season has its costumes, food, sets and props, so when we\u2019re hit with them all in one weekend, and if we\u2019re not organised, we can land up in very frustrating and stressful situations. If you\u2019ve been promising to sort your clothes cupboards out for what would seem forever, and a hint of winter got here before you could, I\u2019m sure you were left stranded without your favourite warm jacket or matching socks, and the crazy thought \u201c do socks multiply? \u201c A lot can happen in one year; do the clothes you wanted to sort out still actually fit you? If you have children, then their previous winter clothes will most probably not fit them now as children are constantly growing, and as they get older they begin to get a sense of identity, so if the clothes still fit them would they actually still want to wear them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Autumn has us feeling we\u2019re all in menopause, with hot flushes later in the day after we\u2019ve carefully coordinated a winter look in the morning. Bedroom stress after mosquitoes have kept us company throughout summer gets replaced with making the bed a few times a night, changing sheets again after what would seem like a fever sweat, but was only a normal seat after going to bed thinking it was cosy and cool, so had the extra blankets on, but had to kick them off halfway through the night. If your cupboards are not organised you curse your way in the dark trying not to wake up properly, looking for spare linen in a linen cupboard full of everything other than linen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As with our animal cousins, we too get signals in autumn to start storing food, eating and resting more. It\u2019s natural to want to munch on extra food and treats as soon as the weather turns, and if we haven\u2019t stocked-up, and then we could find ourselves scratching through kitchen cupboards looking for things that may have been left over from last winter. Maybe a cup-a-soup or some crackers to take the edge off? But if you haven\u2019t kept up to date with clearing and cleaning kitchen cupboards, then you may be in for a surprise! If things weren\u2019t opened, then they may have expired already, otherwise there are usually a few packets of the same thing open, such as rice (a firm favourite ), boxes of biscuits, two-minute noodles (your 6-year-old likes the flavouring, so there are a few noodles left in opened packets) or, possibly, you\u2019ve attracted new pets, such as mice and weevils, who need names now because they\u2019re part of the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otherwise if you\u2019re able to take charge of your clutter yourself, please spare a thought for all those less fortunate than you by donating clothes, bedding, towels, food and so on to local charities or soup kitchens.
