The Overberg Community Trust has pledged to be an instrument of positive change and upliftment within the Overberg region, and this is exactly what it does when it financially assists individuals and organisations through the allocation of bursaries for further study at tertiary institutions as well as donations to develop skills and assist entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Trust recently held its annual awards ceremony at the Caledon Casino Hotel & Spa for successful bursary recipients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This prestigious event was attended by the trustees, members of the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, a guest speaker and the recipients and members of their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guest speaker Violah October, a previous bursary recipient, delivered an inspiring speech. She grew up in Bredasdorp and matriculated in 2012. After obtaining two law degrees from the North West University in Potchefstroom she joined a Cape Town law firm as candidate attorney in 2018 and became a director of the legal practice in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is with great joy and gratitude that I stand here today to address the guests and students and share how the Overberg Community Trust contributed to me achieving my goals and enjoying a successful career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI grew up in a community where opportunities were often rare and dreams were limited to the boundaries of our environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWith assistance from the Trust I learned that even from the most humble circumstances the biggest opportunities can develop.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
October encouraged the bursary recipients to believe in themselves and achieve great heights. \u201cThe road to success is not always easy, but through hard work and determination nothing is impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She mentioned the impact the Trust had on the Overberg community and thanked them for their selfless support, their belief in her and every other student. \u201cThey are a bastion of opportunities and support for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
