Put on your hiking boots or tekkies, pack your camera or cellphone and head out into nature for the annual four-day global \u201cnature hunt\u201d, the City Nature Challenge, which takes place from 26 to 29 April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Overstrand will once again take part in this year\u2019s bioblitz to record and document different plants and animals found in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All you need to do is to take pictures as possible of as many plants, animals and other organisms within the Overstrand area and then upload these to the iNaturalist app (all observations within the Overstrand boundaries during these four days will automatically be added). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overstrand Councillor Clinton Lerm, the Mayoral Committee Member for Investment, Infrastructure and Tourism, said taking part in this nature challenge is \u201cgreat for families, kids, organisations and groups\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added: \u201cNo special knowledge or skills are required \u2013 all you need are your smart phone or camera and the iNaturalist app on your phone or the website on your laptop. The pictures will be identified by specialists, counted, and documented.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You have from 26 to 29 April to make and share your observations. All observations should be uploaded by 5 May. Scientists and nature experts can help with the identification of plant and bird species from 26 April to 09:00 on Monday 6 May. The results will be announced shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
