Colonel Gustav Tamboer and Lieutenant-Colonel Jacobus Janse van Rensburg are familiar faces in the Overberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tamboer, who was born and raised in Riviersonderend, was recently promoted from the rank of lieutenant-colonel to colonel. With this promotion came his appointment as the new station commander at Hermanus Police Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He related that he joined the police on 1 January 1991, just over 33 years ago. \u201cI started my career in North West province, in a town called Vryburg. In 1994 I was transferred to Riviersonder-end, still with the rank of constable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tamboer steadily climbed the ranks until he was promoted to the rank of captain in 2010 and was appointed station commander in Riviersonderend. He also served as the Genadendal station commander from 2013 to 2018, when he was promoted to lieutenant-colonel and became commander of Bredasdorp Police Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tamboer regards his promotion to the rank of colonel on 30 April and his appointment as the station commander in Hermanus as the principal achievements of his career, sources of real pride. He urged the broader community to join forces with the police in the fight against crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI need the support of the broader community of Hermanus, because teamwork is dreamwork. I believe in the slogan \u2018Together we can make a difference\u2019.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Janse van Rensburg, born in Postmasburg in the Kalahari, joined the police on 10 January 1994. He started his career at Parliament. In December 2000, he was transferred to Napier where he moved up the ranks until he was appointed station commander of Napier in 2017 after being promoted to captain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel on 30 April and appointment as Gans-baai Police Station commander, said Janse van Rensburg, were his biggest achievements to date. He called on the community to support him in the fight against crime. \u201cI believe with God\u2019s help we will make Gansbaai safer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
