This was a quote in 1978 about the first Voet van Afrika Marathon that was held in October of that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year Africa\u2019s southernmost marathon close to the tip of Africa will be held on 21 September. The unique routes meander through farming areas, gravel road and jeep tracks across the mountain for the 42.2 km athletes. Participants can enjoy the clear country air, green wheat and yellow canola fields and striking fynbos. The last stretch from Napier is on tar road to Bredasdorp Sport Grounds. Due to rain storms and flooding the usual 21.1 km has been rendered unsafe and impractical for the half-marathon athletes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEnsuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants is our top priority. After careful consideration the Voet van Afrika NPC have decided to take an alternative route. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are excited to announce that we will be using a route that has a special place in the history of the Voet,\u201d the organisers explained. \u201cTwenty years ago was the last time the half-marathon started in Napier. We believe that this route will not only bring back fond memories for some but also create new, cherished experiences for all athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The route will take you along 4 km of gravel road at the out-skirts of Napier, before joining the 42.2 km athletes for the last stretch from Napier on tar road to Bredasdorp Sport Grounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Athletes can choose between the 42.2 km, the 21.1 km, 10 km, 10 km for juniors, 27 km trail run, 12 km trail run and 4 km fun walk events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
