Greyton is well-known for its beautiful gardens, many of which will be open to the public during this year\u2019s Greyton Rose and Garden Fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Greyton Rose Fair started out 35 years ago and was always held on the last weekend in October. Over the past few years, the format has changed a bit and it\u2019s now known as the Greyton Rose and Garden Fair which takes place over the last two weekends in October on 19-20 October and 26-27 October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening parade with the drum majorettes as well as the Miss Roses and Miss Rosebuds will take place on Saturday 26 October on Main Road from 10:00. Exciting news is that the very popular rose show is back again in a slightly different format. It is now called \u201cShow of Roses\u201d and will take place in the Anglican church hall on the second weekend (26-27 October).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ria Wills, one of the organisers, told Hermanus Times<\/i>: \u201cWith the \u2018Show of Roses\u2019 participants can enter as many roses as they wish for an entry fee of R5. This can be single stems or even a bunch of roses. Bunches of roses must be in a jar. The entry fee is not per rose, people can bring as many roses as they wish for the R5 entry fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe would like to encourage as many people as possible from Greyton, Genadendal, Bereaville and Voorstekraal to enter their roses. In fact, you don\u2019t even have to know the name of the rose in order to enter.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entries for the Show of Roses must be delivered to the Anglican church hall on Friday 25 October between 12:00 and 15:00. An entry fee of R20 will be charged at the door to view the Show of Roses or the open garden map may be used. The map, which can be bought online from Quicket or from the Greyton Tourism office, costs R180 and admits two people to all the open gardens as well as the rose show. In addition to viewing the beautiful gardens and roses, visitors will also be able to enjoy the many delights Greyton has to offer like the very popular Saturday morning market, a browse through the many interesting shops and a visit to the local coffee shops and restaurants. All proceeds will be allocated to NGOs in the valley that support childrens\u2019 needs and welfare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
