Wanneer skoolgereedheid oorweeg word, is daar \u2019n reeks ontwikkelingsgebiede \u2013 almal onderling verbind \u2013 wat oorweeg moet word: akademies\/kognitief, sosiaal, emosioneel en fisiek. \u201c?\u2019n Oorbeklemtoning van akademiese vaardighede kan daartoe lei dat abstrakte konsepte aangeleer word sonder voldoende konkrete ervarings. Om leerders te meet en te oordeel volgens vaste voorafbepaalde norme of standaarde, erken nie hul unieke behoeftes, talente en neigings nie. Hierdie benadering plaas onnodige druk op beide die volwassenes en leerders in \u2019n poging om hierdie mylpale te bereik, dikwels ten koste van die ontwikkeling van belangrike basiese of sagte vaardighede.\u201d<\/p>\n
