GSB2024 has now moved into phase 2, and residents are encouraged to upload their observations as soon as possible to ensure there is enough time for identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All participants have until 7 October to upload their photos and get their observations identified. The goal of the Overstrand Bioblitzers is for the most possible observations to achieve Research Grade, meaning at least two thirds of contributors agree on the identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Overstrand Bioblitzing facilitator Sandy Immelman explained that for the data to be valuable to scientists it is essential that the identifications are as accurate as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She urged all Overstrand residents taking part in GSB2024 to click the \u201cAgree\u201d button if they think a new identification is correct. If they are unsure, they should withdraw their identification, or if they disagree, they should leave a comment with supporting evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s crucial that each observation includes a date, time and, most importantly, a location. Participants should ensure the location accuracy is included, aiming for precision within 5 metres whenever possible. This information should be added during the upload process if necessary. Mobile phone photos typically include location data, but this must be manually added for camera photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Immelman also encourages everyone to ask questions in the comments if they need assistance. She also invites participants to help identify others\u2019 observations as long as they are confident in their knowledge of the species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cllr Clinton Lerm, Overstrand Mayco Member for Infrastructure Services and Planning and Development, stated that there is still time to identify as many observations as possible and encourages everyone to continue uploading until Monday, 7 October.
