Theewaterskloof Municipality is offering a reward of up to R5 000 for reliable information that will lead to the successful prosecution of those who have been targeting and damaging municipal and other state-owned electrical infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This follows a recent spike in vandalism and theft across various towns in the Theewaterskloof municipal district, especially in Villiersdorp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
TWK Executive Mayor Tienie Zimmermann reported that Villiersdorp had been struck by vandals and thieves almost weekly since July. \u201cDuring this period more than 20 posts, a generator and more than 10 m of cabling have been damaged or stolen, amounting to close to R2 million worth of damages caused by these incidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBoth municipal and Eskom infrastructure are being targeted and, as a community, we need to stand together and stand up against the ongoing vandalism and theft of public infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe municipality can no longer win this battle alone, we need the community to stand with us against vandalism and theft.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zimmerman thanked municipal officials, Law Enforcement officers, the South African Police Service, all local neighbourhood watches and other partnering authorities who have worked hard to assist and follow-up on leads surrounding these unlawful acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zimmerman went on to emphasise that Theewaterskloof Municipality is offering a reward of up to R5 000 for any positive and reliable information regarding these incidents that will assist in the on-going investigations and lead to arrests.
