Everyone was in a light mood when the Traffic Services at Overstrand Municipality launched its Roadblock Bus and trailer with an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At this event on 11 October the Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie expressed her enthusiasm for the new technology and the use of the Roadblock Bus and trailer to enhance road safety and assist in combatting crime within the Overstrand jurisdiction. \u201cWe are not going to take any nonsense,\u201d she said in her speech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She remarked she is appalled by the reckless driving on 7th Street in Vo\u00eblklip, especially by drivers with CEM number plates who treat the street like a local highway during her morning commute to work. \u201cWhat has happened to respect for traffic signs and speed limits?\u201d the Mayor asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that if the bus can contribute to changing driver behaviour in Overstrand, \u201cthen we will have made a significant impact on the return of this investment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maurice Kannemeyer, CEO of Ultimate Traffic Solutions (UTS), the contracted consultant company, provided a brief overview of the Roadblock Bus\u2019s equipment and capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He discussed how the municipality could benefit from improved efficiency in issuing summonses directly from the bus, in this way saving on overtime and manpower. Kannemeyer said hand-held solutions would save time in issuing fines and reduce unnecessary officer errors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his closing remarks Traffic Chief Rudi Fraser stated his team believed the Roadblock Bus would significantly raise awareness of Overstrand Municipality\u2019s commitment to enforcing traffic laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Roadblock Bus can perform the following functions:.<\/span> The ANPR functionality allows for number plate scanning to detect outstanding fines, summonses, and warrants..<\/span> Payments: These can be processed on the bus via payment points (Yoco or handheld devices). Details can be captured..<\/span> Representation: Representatives can be recorded on site in case of reductions..<\/span> Summons: Summonses can be generated and printed..<\/span> Inquiries: Inquiries can be made to check for outstanding infringements..<\/span> Notices can be printed on the bus..<\/span> CCTV Surveillance: All activity in and around the bus can be monitored via a CCTV app..<\/span>
