CapeNature is excited to announce the launch of South Africa\u2019s first slow-hiking trail at the beautiful De Mond Nature Reserve, just a stone\u2019s throw from the historic seaside town of Arniston. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Damara Trail is a new immersive experience in nature and invites visitors to slow down and enjoy the environment at a leisurely pace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Launched in celebration of World Tourism Day, held annually on 27 September, the trail embraces this year\u2019s theme of peace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Dr Ashley Naidoo, CEO of CapeNature, this slow hike has been designed for age 8 years and older, and all fitness levels, and offers a unique outdoor experience. \u201cUnlike other strenuous hikes, this two-day route features a gentle slope, smooth terrain and scenic rest stops situated along the route,\u201d she explained. \u201cThis hike allows people to connect with nature at a slower pace and fully enjoy their surroundings. We are proud to constantly innovate in our tourism products, whether it be through our accommodation or hiking offerings, and the Damara Trail is sure to be yet another popular activity for loyal and new CapeNature visitors.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Day 1 hikers embark on a 5 km hike (approximately 1 hour 45 minutes) leading to an overnight wooden deck facility, where people can set up their tent accompanied by the sounds of the ocean beneath the night sky. Day 2 is an 11,5 km hike (approximately three hours 45 minutes) along a scenic coastal route, where the trail will end on the beach in Arniston. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHikers are encouraged to take their time and savour the experience and natural beauty of the trail,\u201d said Naidoo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInterpretive signage has been installed along the route. It allows hikers to get to know their surroundings better, with factoids and interesting information on the plants and animals of De Mond and the culture, heritage, shipwrecks, amazing geological formations, and the renowned Waenhuiskrans Cave that make this region an unforgettable destination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
