Road Safety Management (RSM) has taken a significant step in promoting Road Safety among young learners, with the launch of an exciting project at Okkie Smuts Primary in Stanford on 29 October. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The directorate, under the Mobility Department, introduced a Junior Traffic Training Centre (JTTC) at the school, providing learners with hands-on experience and lessons on how to stay safe on the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The aim of this project is to equip children with essential knowledge about road safety from a young age, helping to reduce accidents and create safer communities in the long term. The training centre simulates real-life road scenarios in a safe environment, including mock roads, pedestrian crossings, traffic signs and signals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Children have the opportunity to role-play as pedestrians and motorists, giving them practical insights into road rules and safety tips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Deputy Mayor of the Overstrand, Lindile Ntsabo, was among those who attended the ceremony. \u201cThe JTTC will equip the learners with information about road safety, especially the importance of safe crossing at the road,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Children are among the most vulnerable road users and teaching them road safety skills early on is critical. This project emphasises learning through fun and interaction, making sure kids not only understand the rules but also know how to apply them in real-world situations. By helping learners grasp the importance of responsible behaviour on the roads the centre aims to foster a culture of safety in our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The success of the JTTC is made possible through the partnership between the RSM, local authorities such as Overstrand traffic and school staff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
