With the summer holiday season just a couple of weeks away, the Overstrand Municipality would like to warn residents and holidaymakers to be extra-cautious and mindful of their safety during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
OM Municipal Manager Dean O\u2019Neill emphasised that it\u2019s important to remember that personal safety is a shared responsibility between authorities and individual visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To help ensure your visit is both special and safe, here are a few suggestions, based on international guidelines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Avoid wandering alone after dark: While the town is generally safe, it\u2019s best to avoid walking alone on the streets after dark;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Check routes with your hosts: Familiarise yourself with the safest routes to your destination and inform your hosts of your plans;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Stay in groups: Whenever possible, avoid going out alone, especially at night. Travel in groups or with a trusted companion;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Inform restaurant owners of your route: If you\u2019re walking to a restaurant, let the staff know your planned route and expected return time;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Stick to well-used and well-lit paths: Avoid short cuts and stay away from dark isolated areas;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Park in secure, well-lit areas;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 Keep your belongings secure: Never leave personal items unattended and avoid carrying valuables in plain sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
