Residents of the Overstrand can expect to have field technicians of a company appointed by the municipality to knock on their doors to inspect and audit electricity meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overstrand Municipality is currently conducting an audit of all electricity meters within the Overstrand supply area. It does not include Eskom meters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The audit covers the following meters:.<\/span> Prepaid meters (which may be located partially outside or inside your home);.<\/span> Conventional meters (usually mounted on external walls);.<\/span> Automatic Geyser Control units (typically found near the DB board inside your home).<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n Main purposes of this project:<\/b> The inspections, which will be carried out by Spectrum Utility Management (SUM) field technicians on behalf of Overstrand Municipality, will continue until 30 June 2026, when the tender period concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The field technicians may require access to both the erf and the inside of your home, depending on where your meter is located. They will work six days a week (Monday to Saturday) from 07:00 to 18:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Overstrand municipal manager Dean O\u2019Neill said it is, unfortunately, not viable to publish an official schedule as to where and when inspections will take place as this would give so-called \u201cchancers\u201d time to hide their illegal activities long before the field technicians show up. Ward councillors will, however, inform residents of their ward when the field technicians have commenced their activities in their specific areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n O\u2019Neill requested that residents please arrange access to their premises once they have received this notification from their ward councillor. He explained that in instances where the team cannot gain access to a property, they will leave a note requesting the occupant to contact the Electricity Department to schedule a convenient time for the inspection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n Security<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n As proof of their authorisation by Overstrand Municipality to inspect your meter, all field technicians will carry an official SUM photo-ID displaying their full names and identity number as well as a municipal telephone number you can call to verify their authenticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Only allow authorised personnel with official identification cards access to your premises.
