Voter registration for the 2026 local-government elections is set to take place on 20 and 21 June. The official registrations will take place at the respective registration stations across the country. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local-government elections will be held on 4 November and the Overstrand Municipality has encouraged community members to register to vote and ensure that they are registered within their correct communities. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The voter registration weekend will also serve as the time for residents to either register to vote for the first time, confirm that they are registered correctly, update their address to allow them to vote in the right region and ensure that their voting details appear in the correct voting district. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local political parties have emphasised the importance of the registration weekend. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Residents who have recently moved into another area within the Overstrand are especially encouraged to verify that they are registered at the correct address to avoid losing [their] right to vote on election day,” said Clinton Lerm, mayoral candidate. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the participation of new residents in the Overstrand community is one of the many crucial ways in which they can help grow and shape the future of the community. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Registration is not just a formality,” said Masizole Mnqasela, president of the Alliance of Citizens for Change (A.C.C.). “It is a meaningful step that gives communities a voice in governance and the power to hold leaders accountable.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The DA currently governs the Overstrand Municipality; however, Lern has encouraged residents to not become complacent, noting that “every vote remains important and strong voter participation is essential to ensure continued stable governance.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mnqasela said the elections are a chance for communities and community members to elect honest, capable and committed leaders who want to serve the public with integrity. He added it is a chance for the community to “remove leaders who have failed the people through corruption, poor leadership and incompetence.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Onke Dabile of the Land Party said: “South Africans must understand that voting day is protest day, a day when people stand up against what they don’t like and express their unhappiness. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
