Repatriation processes for foreign nationals are underway in the Overstrand as three buses depart from Kleinmond and two from Gansbaai en route to Krugersdorp. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Incident Command Centre (ICC) reported that repatriation of foreign nationals is currently underway following anti-migration protests and fear-mongering towards foreign nationals across the Overstrand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three buses left Kleinmond on 7 June, two buses left Gansbaai and a bus organised by the Mozambican Embassy arrived in Stanford. The buses from Kleinmond and Gansbaai will stop at Lindela Repatriation Centre in Krugersdorp where undocumented foreign nationals will be processed by the Department of Home Affairs in accordance with immigration procedures. This is according to dr Dean O’Neill, the Overstrand Municipal manager. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, a group of 38 people in Hermanus who were displaced is currently at the Municipal Farm also in Hermanus. The Mozambican Embassy-organised bus in Stanford is currently at the Stanford Community Hall to transport the Mozambican citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
O’Neill stated that there will be no more repatriation efforts organised by the Overstrand Municipality. “Private households or faith-based organisations currently housing foreign nationals from Mozambique or other countries must make their own private transport and repatriation arrangements,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As voter registration is scheduled to take place on 20 and 21 June, “municipal facilities will not be reopened to accommodate people” in preparation for the registration weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
